Teen mother Matricia raises her son CJ without having her own mother's support. Convicted in 1984 of attempted murder, Matricia's mother remains in prison. In addition to attending high school and filing for child support, Matricia also makes a monthly trip to the state capitol to speak before the parole board on her mother's behalf.

  • Matricia serves as CJ?s playground while house sitting for her grandparents. She called the baby?s father so he could talk to CJ but he was with friends and refused. &#xA;<br />

  • Matricia wakes three hours before school starts to fix bottles, bathe CJ and get herself ready. This means the rest of the house has to wait.&#xD;<br />

  • After finding out from a classmate that she could receive child support from the baby?s father, Matricia immediately scheduled an appointment with a caseworker.&#xA;<br />

  • Matricia struggles with her studies and makes it to school only two or three days a week. Having a baby at home is too taxing on the teenager.

  • Although life with CJ is hectic, Matricia finds quality time with him at home when she knows she should be concentrating on homework.&#xD;<br />

  • Matricia longs to know the mother she never had growing up. She makes monthly trips to Montgomery to stand before the parole board asking for her mother?s freedom.&#xD;<br />

  • Luckily CJ is a morning baby, who rarely fusses about the diaper routine or being abandoned at the baby sitter.&#xA;<br />

  • Matricia finds herself excluded at school. She no longer shares common interests with most classmates which singles her out in the classroom.&#xA;<br />

  • Even through she is faced with dilemmas most her age do not deal with, Matricia believes everything will work out and she will be stronger for having experienced it.&#xD;<br />
